GI Chi contains the herbs Sanguisorba officinalis, Euphorbia prostrate, and Phellodendron amurense. These herbs have been traditionally used to treat diarrhea, intestinal bleeding, vomiting, abdominal pain, gastritis and dysentery. It is also recommended for colitis. Individually, each herb has separate gastrointestinal effects.
The herb Euphorbia has anti-pathogenic microbial properties and contains the active components kaempferol, quercetin, eumaculin A, â-amyrin acetate, etc. Eumaculin A has been shown to inhibit bacteria such as streptococcus, E. coli, spirillum, etc. â-amyrin acetate inhibits parasites by blocking purine transferase. Euphorbia is a better antidote for organs than Vitamin C. This means that it is able to better protect the organs against toxicity than Vitamin C. It also helps stop bleeding. In toxicity studies, 15 g/kg given orally to mice produced no toxicity, making it a very safe herb.
Like Euphorbia, the herb Sanguisorba also helps control bleeding. Its active components are sanguin, 3,3’,4-tri-0-methylellagic acid, kaempferol, quercetin, etc. It has anti-microbial effects against E. coli, streptococcus, etc. It allows the phagocytosis of these microorganisms and clears them out from the system. Furthermore, it has an anti-vomit effect. The active component 3,3’,4-tri-0-methylellagic acid has anti-inflammatory function. Toxicity studies show that its lethal dose (LD50) intraperitoneally administered to mice is 2.17g/kg, making it a safe herb.
The herb Phellodendron is one of the main sources of berberine, which is widely used for gastrointestinal applications such as gastroenteritis, cholera, bacterial diarrhea, and intestinal parasite infection. Its antiseptic action against bacteria, yeasts, viruses and amoebas has yielded a range of activity levels from mild suppression to potent action. In particular, it demonstrated significant anti-pathogenic microbial activity against bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoans (trichomonads), helminths, and chlamydia. Its inhibition of giardia and candida are of particular interest by researchers right now. It also has anti-pyretic and anti-inflammatory functions. Besides its gastrointestinal functions, berberine is also currently being investigated for applications in cholesterol, diabetes, Alzheimer’s and even cancer.
GI Chi is an especially effective and quick remedy for acute diarrhea and vomiting. For best results, GI Chi must be taken immediately at the first sign of gastrointestinal infection.
